Cookies policy

What are cookies

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on the user's device while navigating the website through a browser. They are stored and processed by a web browser. They are stored to remember user information or preferences. Cookies serve many purposes, such as allowing to navigate between pages efficiently, remembering preferences and generally improving the user experience.

  • First party cookies are cookies set by the website you’re visiting. Only that website can read them. These cookies placed by the displayed website are called First party cookies and only that website can read them. The website may potentially also use external services, which also set their own cookies, known as third-party cookies.
  • Persistent cookies are cookies saved on the user's device and that are not deleted automatically as soon as the browser is closed, unlike a session cookie, which is deleted when browser quit.

Cookies can also be used to establish anonymised statistics about the browsing experience.

How do we use cookies

At the beginning of the navigation on the website of the POSEIDON system, the visitor will be prompted to accept or refuse cookies from the pop-up cookie policy banner and cookie settings, taking into consideration the use and type of cookies. This is to enable the site to remember user's preferences (such as language) for a certain period of time. By establishing cookie settings, the visitor expressly agrees to the use of cookies with this Cookies Policy.

Should POSEIDON system use other cookies in the future in order to provide more and better services, the user will be informed.

First party cookies

POSEIDON system website mostly uses “first-party cookies”. These are cookies that are placed and controlled by the system, not by any external organization.

The 3 types of first-party cookie we use are to:

  • store visitors' cookie preferences & provide access to secure areas of the site
  • gather analytics data (about user behaviour)
  • improve the functionality of website

The visitors of the website can set their cookie preferences. These preferences are categorised into three types: 1) "necessary," 2) "performance" and 3) "functional".

On the POSEIDON system website, you can either accept all cookies or reject the performance cookies or/and functional cookies. However, if you want to keep navigating on the website, you will need to accept the necessary cookies.
